If you have a Core budget, and you meet the conditions explained below, then yes – but only for essential gardening activities like mowing the lawn.
You may be able to use your NDIS funding for a gardener if you meet the following criteria:
- Your disability prevents you from being able to undertake the gardening tasks yourself.
- The gardener will be performing essential gardening activities, for example, mowing the lawn and weeding.
If you meet the above criteria, below are some additional conditions to note:
- The NDIS won’t pay for specialist gardening services that every Australian engages every now and again. This includes tree lopper services, landscaping, laying/planting grass, gutter or drain repair/replacement, slashing, rubbish removal etc. Similarly, the NDIS won’t fund gardening equipment like a lawn mower or shears.
- If you live with other people, the NDIS won’t usually fund a gardener. The NDIS usually expects the other resident/s to take care of the garden.
- The NDIS is unlikely to fund a gardener for children as it’s not considered reasonable and necessary for children to maintain a garden.
